New London Welsh signings for 2009/10

In his choice of new players Head Coach Danny Wilson has shown the intention to play fast open rugby. Representation for England or Wales at Sevens is a common theme in these signings as is Guinness Premiership and Welsh Region experience. With the confirmation that Phil Greening has joined the coaching set-up, there is no doubt that London Welsh supporters can look forward to an exciting season.
With a number of unfamiliar faces likely to make an appearance during the pre-season games, Dragons' Den brings you a brief introduction to the new players.

Lee Beach (Back Row) Wales’ World Cup 7s winning captain joins London Welsh from Neath where he was also captain. Lee has also played for Swansea, Ospreys, Pontypridd, and Maesteg DOB 6/10/1982

Michael Holford (Prop) Joining London Welsh from Wasps, Michael can play on either side of the scrum. Prior to his stint at Wasps, where he made 19 appearances, he played 51 times for Leicester. Honours include England U18s Schools, England U19s and U21s (playing in the IRB World Championships in 2002)

Joe Horn-Smith (Prop) Joe moved to Sale Sharks from Exeter in Feb 09 after playing a number of games for Sale’s 2nd XV.

Mike Hills (Back Row) Also joining LW from Sale Sharks, Mike represented England at the 2006 U21 World Championship and has also played for England Sevens. Previously played for Doncaster DOB 11/6/85

Rob Lewis (Scrum Half) Prior to joining Newport Gwent Dragons Rob played for Ebbw Vale, Newport, Neath and Aberavon. He has represented Wales at U18, U19, U20 levels and also at Sevens DOB 20/11/87

Errie Claassens (Wing) A prolific try scorer for Rotherham Titans, Errie has made the move south to play for LW. The 27 year old South African has played for the University of the Free State side Shimlas (Bloemfontein) and represented Free State at U19 and U21 levels. He also played for Free State Cheetahs and Griquas Rugby

Ben has made the short move from neighbours London Scottish. Previously with Worcester & Wasps the three times Guinness Premiership winner has represented England at U21 level DOB 15/2/81

Dominic Shabbo (Wing/Centre) Dominic spent a short time on loan with London Welsh last season and now makes a permanent move to ODP from London Irish. Represented England at Sevens DOB 26/1/86

Chris Whitehead (Hooker) Signed to Wasps and will be available to LW on loan. Formerly with Leicester Academy, Bedford and Coventry

Simon Whatling (Fly Half/Centre) Simon played against twice against LW last season and particularly impressed coach Danny Wilson during our first meeting with Cornish Pirates Devizes. Previously with Bath and Worcester. Played for England at U21 level. DOB 16/09/84

Lorne Ward (Prop) Lorne returns to ODP after stints at Harlequins, Bath and, most recently, London Scottish DOB 16/2/77

Neil Starling (Centre) At 6’5 Neil is certain to be very visible in centre of the pitch. Joining LW from Northampton Saints the former England Sevens player has previously played for Nottingham and Rotherham DOB 8/6/82

Robert Bell (Flanker) Rob returns to LW after a brief loan period with us from Leicester last season. He finished the season on loan to Coventry. DOB 24/11/89
