Nottingham v London Welsh Teams

London Welsh make two changes to their starting XV, both in the pack. Ben Thomas starts the game and Matt Corker is on the replacements bench. Rob Bell takes the place of Mike Hills who was injured during the Bristol fixture. Simon Whatling, having recovered from an injury in the pre-season game against Esher, and Chris Whitehead, the hooker dual-registered with Wasps, are listed as replacements.

The fact that Tom Brown, Paul Sampson and Dorian can't get in the starting XV shows just how much the squad has been strengthened over the summer. And I said to someone the other day that the Whatling/ Starling partnership looks like the best centre pairing since Currier and Roskell - and yet that means no place for Paul Mackey, who was my vote for player of the year last season.

Update for the London Welsh fans.
You may have spotted that it is also the Nottingham Marathon on Sunday, we have spoken to the organisers who expect the roads arpound the ground to be open from about 1.30 and definitely from 2.00pm.
If you arrive early and the roads are closed explain that you are going to the rugby and the marshalls should let you through as apparentl only 1 lane of the roads will be shut.
I am reliably informed you do not have to complete the marathon before the game although we are trying to ensure the Welsh players do !!!!

Thanks BW for the updates. Stuck at home watching Pirates v Moseley on Pirates TV, anything to see some rugby this weekend!

Didn't think we were ever in charge of this game. Rarely seen a Welsh pack shoved around as comprehensively as they were yesterday. Kicks hitting the post and other chances missed didn't help. Ref was poor but the same for both sides. Few backs moves from Nottm. Not a great experience all told at Meadow Lane. Costly,(£18 to get in) the wind howls through the dungeon area under the stand. Crowd 1,006 (we brought the six). Another b.p. though so it's minus 3 now, despite what it says in the'Torygraph.'
