London Welsh Win Appeal

It may have seemed the longest two days in the history of London Welsh but finally the result of the appeal is in and the Exiles will be taking their place in the Premiership next season.

In sports biggest shock in years (well, at least since Nadal’s defeat at Wimbledonyesterday),  London Welsh have been successful in their appeal to convert their Championship win into a Premiership place.

It may have take two full days for the collective minds of three independent QCs but their collective ponderings agreed with those of rugby supporters up and down the country. Their decision also calls into question the approach taken during the MSC audit and how the auditors could have reached their initial conclusion. Clearly this is an area that must now be addressed by the RFU and the PGB.

For London Welsh there is limited time for celebration. Premiership fixtures will be announced next week, there are 6,000 new supporters to recruit, players to sign and the logistics of a move to Oxford to work out.

Naturally the step up to the Premiership and the fortnightly commute up the M40 will not suit everyone.
