There's no place like home

Rugby continues to thrive at Old Deer Park as the famous ground remains the home of the London Welsh adult amateur and youth teams. Home advantage is always important and London Welsh Women's RFC have certainly made it count over the past couple of years. Ruth Goodwyn explains....

The ladies season has certainly started well for them. Their victory over Henley in mid-October stretched their unbeaten run at Old Deer Park to an incredible twenty four months and must leave their opponenets dreading a trip to Kew! It's not just success at home as they chalked up a superb win away at Chipping Sodbury 57-0 last weekend to move to second in the Championship South West 2 league table.  With last years league winners suffering two defeats in a row the competition is wide open for the ladies to challenge for top spot. 

This sucess has come about after  recruiting a number of new players in what is a highly competitive area for women's rugby. It's not surprising that the team's success has seen several players rewarded with inclusion in representative squads. Nicola Crowther has been selected for the Irish Exiles squad whilst Helena Potts, Katie McBride and Adi Jioji have all been selected by Middlesex County.

As well as the on pitch success, the team have also found themselves a sponsor in the form of Vodka Revolutions, Richmond.

LWWRFC has one away fixture before Christmas and return to ODP on Sunday 13th January for the visit of Supermarine Ladies.
