Jersey Reds v Newcastle Falcons

Saturday 29th February - Stade Santander International

Falcons will have to contend with some awful weather, very strong winds in the region of 50mph have been forecast, hail, rain and temperature of no more than 7º.   For those supporters travelling you will need your weatherproofs. However, high winds will not be allowed to blow Newcastle Falcons’ promotion charge off-course at Jersey this Saturday, says centre Gareth Owen, as the Championship leaders take their 20-game winning streak to the Channel Islands. full article on the offy HERE

Also this is leap year weekend!  So don't forget girls you can propose on Saturday

Jersey Reds signed hooker Reece Marshall from Northampton Saints last weekend to bolster their fronr row.  However, they have had two players banned after last week's match against Ealing.  Rodney Iona dangerous tackle banned until 24 March and Ziana montout-Alexis again dangerous tackle, banned until 7 April.

MATCH PROGRAMME

The Jersey Reds match-day programme is now a free online publication which is made available to all supporters the day before the game. The programme includes team news, match reports, profiles of opposing players/coaches and links to additional video content. The publication contains the team news as per the official announcement and also forms part of Jersey Reds’ commitment to the environment.

TRANSPORT

As the official Travel Partner for the Jersey Reds, Jersey Bus & Boat Tours and Signature Coaches make it easier for locals and visiting supporters to get to the Stade Santander with a direct return shuttle. The Jersey Reds branded coach departs from Stand O, Liberation Station, St Helier before every home match and returns back to Liberation Station after the game.

The ground is less than 10 minutes’ walk from the airport:

Taxi – to/from the ground to town, St Helier will be around £15.00
Bus – There’s the No. 9 bus to/from St Helier at £2.20 which stops outside the ground or the No. 15 bus to the Airport or the No. 22 to L’Etacq. Visit Liberty Bus for all bus times.
Car – There is free parking available close to the ground, but traffic tends to be busy, so please allow lots of time.

Official club trip cancelled due to weather
Iím flying out first thing tomorrow but worried that flight may be cancelled. Iím not doing that well at the moment with rugby trips!

Am I correct in assuming that the reason no announcement has been made regarding the team for tomorrow is because the whole squad have been despatched using several different modes of transport? The first 23 to arrive will presumably represent the club.
I do have a small boat parked on the Tyne and would be happy to offer lifts but I fear we have left it a bit too late!

To be fair, bearing in mind the size of Jersey, you could probably do this by standing on a hill.

Does anyone know if Jersey stream any coverage of the match anywhere?

Everyone I've spoken to in Jersey are totally gutted for the 100+ supporters who will miss out but for those who do get here I've been advised that the Q&A session involving the coaches of both teams is going ahead as scheduled. Falcons hospitality was magnificent when I visited for the league and cup fixtures this season as well as the Good Friday match a few years ago and I am sure the Club will be trying their very best to reciprocate this weekend.

Great to have 60-70 in the house for the Q&A, thanks to those who made the effort to come up, and sorry that some couldn't because of the flight issues; some great views and stories from the DoRs and a nice atmosphere...

Tbf Tom it was a great evening. Incredible hospitality and you guys even put veggie chilli on! Itís a really good set up you have there.

Apart from admiring the biceps of your DOR my take on the evening was although Iím not a huge fan of our DORís style of play sometimes heíd be more than welcome at any dinner party we throw (Not that we throw very many!)....great sense of humour, very honest and seems like a genuinely nice guy. Harvey came across really well too. It was very refreshing to hear DORs speak candidly like they did rather than the normal guarded, almost pre scripted stuff that many use in the media.

Weather today:
Fair or sunny periods with occasional showers developing. Showers becoming squally and more frequent from midday with hail and a risk of thunder. Risk of a ground frost overnight.
UV Index: 3 F7 West to southwest strong F6 to 7, perhaps gale F8 at times with gusts to 50mph around showers, backing southwesterly moderate F4 to fresh F5 overnight.

The forecast wind will be a huge factor today and for those who don't know the ground it will blow up the hill towards the scoreboard corner. The prime spots will be the clubhouse & pavilion balconies for those who can get there early. The action will be largely at the scoreboard end and if you can put up with the wind in your face the covered terrace at the East end will be good. The bookies are unlikely to accept bets on Penberthy or Flood dropping a goal down windfrom inside his own half.

Left hotel in St Hellier at 13-20 for 10 minute drive to ground only to be told no parking available and go to airport to park , by then it was monsooning and we would have been saturated walking from there to the ground so back to hotel to park and hopefully a taxi in time for kick off , aaaagh

Later found out our anger of not able to park next to the ground was caused by the dreadful weather and the field where we should have parked was flooded but not even the rain wind and hail spoiled our enjoyment of the fantastic first half as it was simply one of the top performances I have seen in those conditions.
