Newcastle Falcons' Hugh Vyvyan has been named in the England A 22 man squad to prepare to face Scotland A at Northampton on March 21st.

As announced yesterday a further eight players will be made available from the England senior squad once the final 22 to face Scotland at Twickenham on March 22nd has been named next week.

Joe Lydon the England A has reason to be pleased as so far the A team beaten France 30-13 and Italy 43-11. After tackling Scotland on March 21st they travel to play Ireland on March 29.

"I've been delighted with the commitment and the progress shown by the players in the opening two games and our aim is now to take this through to the game against Scotland. They will produce a strong side and the draw against them last year showed what a tough game we can expect on March 21st."

Lydon went on to congratulate Jamie Noon and the other A team players who yesterday were named in the full England Training Squad.

"I'd like to add my congratulations to Steve Borthwick, Paul Grayson, Jamie Noon and Andy Gomarsall for getting into the senior squad. They've done so on merit and the attitude of all of them has been superb."

Although named in the last England A training squad Hugh Vyvyan has not yet been awarded a final squad place, the preferred back row being Martin Corry (Leicester Tigers), Andy Hazell (Gloucester) and James Forrester (Gloucester). Hugh Vyvyan is a talented player and surely deserves his chance. Having moved from the second row to the back row this season his versatility would be a huge plus.

With Falcons taking on Corry's Leicester Tigers this weekend it is the perfect opportunity for the versatile Vyvyan to stake his claim.
