Newcastle Falcons' Phil Dowson scored up his first try of the tournament as England go through to the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Sevens.
After Friday's 52 - 0 victory over Singapore England continued in fine form, beating Taiwan 43 - 5. Ugo Monye, NEC Harlequins 20 year old winger scored four times in the first half of the match. Additional points came with tries from Saracens' Tony Roques, Rob Thirlby of Rotherham and Northampton Saints' John Howard, Simon Amor slotted four conversions and John Howard also got one.
England's other Group B match against Tonga was supposed to be more of a challenge. However Tonga were left for dead as the England team ran in five tries, with
Newcastle Falcons' Phil Dowson scoring his first try of the tournament. The other four came from Saracens' Richard Haughton, team captain Phil Greening of London Wasps, and two more for the man of the moment Ugo Monye. Simon Amor slotted all five conversions. Final score England 42 - Tonga 7.
England's next opponents are likely to be Australia. A surprise defeat for Australia at the hands of Kenya, means that the Wallabies are only likely to go through as one of the two best runners-up from the group stage.
