It is an honour and a privilege to be elected as Chairman of the supporters club in succession to Peter Graham. Peter has been your Chairman for the last 3 years and is a hard act to follow

 

 He has worked tirelessly on behalf of the supporters of London Irish, and continues to do so nationally in his capacity as Vice-Chairman of the National Rugby Supporters Association.

 

Thanks must also go to Nev Harkin and Cormac Purtill who have served on the committee since the Supporters Club was formed.      

 

I believe that it is important to emphasise that the Supporters Club is not about individuals, it is about each and every one of us, the supporters of London Irish.  The elected committee merely acts as your conduit to the club.  Currently we have set ourselves a target of increasing our membership to 1,000.  With your continued help I believe it is possible to achieve this.  A strong Supporters Club means that we are better placed to represent your views in the regular meetings that we aim to hold with the management of the club.

 

As I said at the AGM, we should also remember our heritage and those who continue to uphold the traditions that we all hold dear.  To this end we continue to develop strong links with the Amateur Club who are the guardians of our spiritual home in Sunbury.  Membership of the Amateur Club is currently available and carries with it the chance of participating in the ballot for International tickets (including the Ireland fixtures).  Further details about Amateur Club membership can be found at www.london-irish-amateur.co.uk     

 

Finally, although we live in a world of high-speed communication (a ‘virtual village’ if you like) please remember that membership of the committee is a part-time ‘occupation’ and those who are elected serve as volunteers.  It is not therefore always possible to provide an immediate or instant answer to your questions.  However, rest assured that we will always try and get back to you as soon as we can.   

 

I hope that with your help and support the committee can follow the excellent work that has already been carried out and that we can all play our part in continuing the London Irish tradition of hospitality with the aim of making it the best supported club in the land.
