Joke Book for Jarrod - The Finale

They're all sold !

December 21 2002

Many many years ago, when men were men, and children were seen but not heard, Bisach and OxonRob dreamt up the idea that if you got enough people to tell you jokes, you'd eventually have enough to put them in a book. So that is what they did.

Joke Book Finale

Sales of the Joke Book for Jarrod have raised more than £5,400 !!

Bill painstakingly gathered content together from the Internet generally and the Message Board in particular. OxonRob used his blue pencil viciously on the draft text, brought in some extra text (mostly supplied by the Message Board again) and engaged the hearts and minds of his work colleagues and suppliers to keep costs down.

An A5 Joke Book was published at the end of October 2002, comprised of a colour cover and 40 black and white text pages. It was filled with often scurrilous cartoons, photos, stories and jokes, and sold for £3 plus P&P.

Then for two and a half months, at every home and away game, save Newport Away where the weather was atrocious, and the bar warm and welcoming, the brave twosome and their diminishing band of friends stood outside in all weathers, trying to flog their books and raise money for Jarrod Cunningham's SALSA Foundation. The girls proved most adept at this, using their feminine wiles to charm cash from our opponents and fellow-supporters alike. It wasn't a fair fight, but who cares.

Aileen Watson sells the last book

On Sunday 15th December, the books (yes, all 2,000 !) sold out, STH and occasional book flogger Aileen Watson selling the last one to Solan (SoSo) Harrison (an avid LI supporter, I'm told!) in the cowshed after the game.

Bisach took a commemorative photo.

Critical acclaim for the book was (almost) universal....

"I have to say that a group of Newport supporters all bought copies and were then heard reading them aloud and practically peeing their pants with laughter - before coming back and thanking me for selling to them!" Mrs Goz

"Congratulations from everyone at Kingston Park.... we are still laughing and applaud a great achievement for a great player!" Falcon1 (Newcastle)

".... the last book that I bought was sold again to a Newport fan who was upset that you had sold out." Big_Brownz

"I bought two as Christmas presents, but they're too good, so I'm keeping one!" Znoober (Bristol)

"I urge all Glaws friends to splash out and purchase this first class organ. If you are black, white, green, pink, Scottish, English, Irish, male, female and, of course, Welsh you will be got at. Brilliant." Captain Jolly (Gloucester)

"This joke book is a must have article. I would recommend that you buy several. You will want one for yourself, one to give to someone for Christmas and one for a spare birthday present just in case." JayneBeth (Gloucester)
