In the second of BrianC's diaries we move into July. Nothing whatsoever is happening in the rugby world and the site has become quiet.

An Ed’s Diary – 1st July 2003

First thing this morning I jump at the computer and check the site’s stats. Phew! That was close, but we made it, just, over 200k hits in June.

These stats are an unpredictable thing. Until yesterday (Monday) morning I was confident that we’d be comfortably over the 200k mark. Sunday was much lower than normal, 1.5k where it is normally 3k, and the site seemed to be incredibly quiet yesterday. This turned out to be the case we only had 6k hits. Most Mondays, even in the close season the figure is closer to 10k. With the 6k hits we were still the top rugby site in Sportnetwork yesterday. It feels like the whole rugby world has gone to sleep.

We still have July to go through but I don’t think it will be as tough. I have eight ‘Meet the Family’ stories ready to go. Rather than release them daily as I have until now I decide to let them loose every second day. This will keep us going until the middle of the month by which time we will hopefully have some things to talk about. I cobble together a story about the June stats, in this I tell about the change in the pattern of story releases.

Kealey has started a thread entitled ‘The worst ever beer’ which is proving to be some fun. All sorts of names are being dredged up - Red Barrel, Double Diamond, Japanese Guinness. After England’s recent successes in NZ and Aus poll results show that people are confident of their chances in RWC2003. Over 50% of respondents are now saying that they think England will win. We shall see, my money would still be on Aus.

I replace the England/RWC poll with one on the ‘Mornington Crescent’ & ‘Msg. LISC Committee’ threads. Over 50% of those who respond say they don’t like either thread. This appears to have killed both of them off, for now at least.
