Prof’s Positives Week 24: More Sharks

The first team’s performance gave me little reason to be positive, the scrum performed well in the tight and Andre Vos performed well all afternoon.

The fact we are another week on means the members of our huge injury list (Chris Bell, Nick Duncombe, Laurent Gomez, Nick Greenstock, Pat Sanderson, Nathan Williams, Roy Winters, Keith Wood) are getting closer to fitness again.

Ben Gollings and Ugo Monye both performed well for England in the Wellington 7s, reaching but losing the final. On the strength of his 7s performances Ugo has earned a place in the England U21s starting line up to play France tomorrow – well done Ugo.

Four of our other players have been selected in this weekend’s Six Nations matches, Paul Burke has been called up to the bench for Ireland and Dan Luger and Will Greenwood will be in the England back line. I am sure I don’t need to mention to anyone that Jason Leonard will be collecting his 100th cap for England at Twickenham this weekend – well done to Jase and the others and best of luck to you all.

Elsewhere in the club the U21s lost a hard fought and by the sound of it violent game against their opposite numbers from Sale, but by the sound of it the young Quins were unlucky and put up a very spirited performance.

On the amateur side of things both the Ladies and the Amateurs won their matches against strong opposition, the Ladies defeated Alton 15-14 and bearing in mind that Alton are in the league above this was a fine result. The Amateurs 1sts beat the top side in their league – Belsize Park 22-14.

The Six Nations is now upon us and we can relax a little and enjoy supporting our players in less colourful shirts, enjoy the next couple of weeks and get ready to support the seconds against The Army on February 25th in Aldershot (a game that should see the return of Roy Winters) and the firsts away to Bristol on Sunday 2nd March where we should see the likes of Nate, Nicky and Chris returning.

Oh, I forgot….Come on you Quinnnsssaaahhh!
