Kenya Quins lose to KCB in the Kenya Cup - Game 12

A sad end to the to the 15's season indeed. KCB whitewashed Quins 48-12 in our last match of the season at the Lions Den in Ruaraka. The only consolation is we as the 2003 champions finished 3rd which was an improvement on 2004 when we were 4th.

Quins started in devastating fashion and pinned a full strength KCB in their half sending them back-pedalling from the first kick. Jude Thumbi forced the KCB backs into numerous errors and with the forwards building several phases the ball was swung wide to speedy winger wizzkid Sidney Ashioya who was clinical in his finish. Judd Thumbi was good with the conversion and the score flattered us reading Quins 7 KCB 0 and the faithful were in high spirits as we were in control 7 minutes barely into the game. Game on and we knew out we are but down we are not. However that was not to be and Quins just like the Aussies against the All Blacks, ended their involvement with the game of rugby. The classic try they scored was satisfaction enough. 

KCB on the other hand recovered from that disastrous start built a one way highway and started piling points against a disinterested Quins who were happy to play second fiddle. A penalty try awarded to Quins through Judd Thumbis efforts was the only cheer for the faithful in the second half as KCB warmed up for their next weekend clash against Impala in a game that decides the destiny of the Kenya Cup and the 2005 champions. Final Score KCB 48 Quins 12. Then again how could Quins make it easy for Impala?

Poor Planning   saw the seconds fail to travel to Mombasa thereby giving Mombasa the easiest of passages to the Eric Shirley Shield 2nd Division Final. Had Quins 2nd XV played the game they were a sure bet for the final bit unfortunately that was not meant to be. The dejected youngsters shed tears when they were informed at the last minute that their trip was off. This was not the way to end their season surely...........Questions here beg for answers!!!!!!

Focus now turns to the Sevens season and Sevens Coach Gordon Anampiu (who also doubles up as the National 7s coach) knows that nothing short of a clean sweep is expected of his squad. The personnel at his disposal are the envy of many a club. Lets just get our act together. The cupboard is dying for trophies. So lets fill it up.

On the social side, A second Quiz night is planed for mid September and the Club Dinner will follow after the conclusion of the Sevens Circuit. Watch this space. Plus lets get our house in order!
