The Saints went out at the quarter final stage of the Middlesex Charity Sevens at Twickenham on Saturday. In a team boasting three internationals in Peter Jorgensen, Nick Beal and Jon Sleightholme they started well beating fellow ZP team Bristol.

A brace of tries from both Jonny Howard and Jorgy plus singles from Sleights and skipper Beal saw them cruise to a 36-17 win setting up a quarter final clash with London Irish.

The game against the Exiles, who had entered a strong team, was a different proposition and for all their efforts a solitary Sleightholme try was the only score as they went down 28-5.

The competition was won by Bradford who just about blew everyone away including Gloucester, the Army and a wasps side who looked very good on paper but failed to live with the rampant League boys.

The Plate was won by Newcastle including a familiar face in Sideshow Joe Shaw.
