Time for another delve into the bookies profits as Wellsaint tips the winners and learns how to spell a new word beginning with L. Somewhat reluctantly, you understand.

HEINEKEN EUROPEAN CUP ROUND FOUR BETTING PREVIEW

Little time again this week – big thanks to Midland Mainline and Railtrack for that.

On to this week’s games.

Pool One

Leicester Tigers v Beziers

You don’t know how much that hurt putting their proper name. They will win, the handicap line of 17-23 may be a touch high though and on balance I would back Beziers with the points.

Neath v Calvisano

Neath are 26-32 point favourites and I again would back Calvisano with the points.


Pool Two

Perpignan v Gloucester

Gloucester are 2 to 6 point favourites for this game. Perpignan looked useful against Gloucester, but I suspect Gloucester may well win this. I’d be looking towards giving the 2 up rather than the 6 though.

Viadana v Munster

Munster are 34 to 40 point favourites and demolished Viadana last week. More of the same, and 34 points looks a fair punt.


Pool Three

Glasgow v Bourgoin

Glasgow are receiving 2 to 7 points and I feel that a surprise could be in store. It will be cold in Glasgow tonight and this may not suit the home team. Glasgow for a surprise win.

Llanelli v Sale

Llanelli are 9 to 12 point favourites against a Sale side. This is effectively a dead rubber. Llanelli should beat the handicap line.


Pool Four

Leinster v Montferrand

Leinster surprised a few people winning in Montferrand. The double will be completed tonight. Leinster are 7 to 11 point favs and should beat the line.


Bristol v Swansea

Virtually meaningless game (if an Anglo-Welsh game ever can be). Bristol are 12 point favs, should win but maybe by less than 12 and I’m giving this a swerve.


Pool Five

London Irish v Newpoer

Similarly meaningless game, Irish 12 point favs, may well beat the handicap line, another swerve from me.

Toulouse v Edinburgh

Toulouse are 20 point favourites. They won by this in Edinburgh. And they may well win by this again. Toulouse to beat the line.


Pool Six

Biarritz v Ulster

Biarritz lost to Ulster narrowly last week. This is an entirely different matter. Biarritz are 11 to 16 point favourites and the offer of them giving up 11 points at Coral is too good to miss.

Cardiff v Saints

Cardiff are bottom of the group and out of the competition but could still have a big say in the outcome of this group. Saints are 5 to 7 point favourites, this looks fair, and I think Saints will win and cover the handicap line.


Two cautions with any bets this week

a) Watch the weather forecasts. With a chilly night expected in Glasgow for instance, I feel this is a major factor in favour of Glasgow’s winning chance tonight. Similarly you do not want to be giving big starts on gluepot pitches if the rains come.

b) Beware the meaningless games (two of which have been outlined above) – also be wary of games where one team is out of the competition (such as Sale and Cardiff)
