LIONS made a losing start in National Division Three South against a solid Bridgwater side. The home side could only depend on Matt Goode's penalty kicking in response to Bridgwater's three second-half tries as they suffered from having to reshape their back row after injuries to both flankers in their final pre-season game a week earlier. .
A Goode penalty edged Lions into an 8-6 interval lead despite a yellow card for lock Karl Braband, but Rugby's defence proved surprisingly porous in a second half when they enjoyed the wind at their backs.
Bridgwater crossed the line three times with at times minimal Lions tackling and only five Goode penalties kept his side in touch to claim a losing bonus point.
