Nuneaton crocks back in running

NUNEATON coach Mike Umaga is waiting on a number of late fitness tests before finalising his side for tomorrow's game against National Division Three North leaders Caldy at Liberty Way. Forwards Ian Critchley, Brook Davies and Nick Smith are all in the running to return from injury, while back row Damien Taylor picked up a slight knee problem at training earlier in the week. Second row

forward Llyr Griffiths - on loan from Stour-bridge - will definitely make his delayed debut after the frustration of last week's postponement at Kendal when Nuns completed their journey to Cumbria only to find the pitch under water.

Nuns have won their last three home games, all played outside the main Liberty Way stadium, and Umaga is hoping for a repeat of the last one when their 41-35 victory knocked Maccles-field off the top of the table.

"We're aware that Caldy do like to move the ball about, and it may come down to that who dominates the ruck area holds the key," said Umaga.

"We've spent time on that in training and on our defence - we know we have to shore up as there have been lapses which can be costly in a tight game. We need to keep our concentration going.

"We're looking forward to it, and we have an unbeaten record to defend on the pitch which we don't want to lose."

Nuneaton from: Cook, Cave, Johnson, Douglas, Takarangi, Aley, Thomas, Brocklehurst, L Roy-Smith, Ryan, Bray, Pickard, Wright, Woodfield, Davies, Hurst, Griffiths, Holmes, White, Taylor, Critchley, Smith, N Roy-Smith
