KENILWORTH'S pack rose to the challenge presented by an enterprising young Hinckley side who have adapted admirably to life at a higher level. The visitors were denied a breakthrough when Glenn Bond's penalty smacked against the bar, but they took the lead in the 20th minute when Paul Thompson's adroit pass sent scrum-half Gareth Renowden scurrying across and Bond claimed the additional points.

Thompson and Renowden linked again to launch James Hersey on a muscular dash to the line, Bond's conversion giving Kenil-worth a 14-0 cushion at the changeover.

Although Kenilworth continued to press at the start of the second half, the loss of the combative Tristan Wati proved a disruption and Hinckley took advantage to collect a try via full-back Neil Harbour.

But the visitors quickly regained the initiative and, after Andy Whitehall's try had been chalked off in favour of a scrum to Kenilworth, Bond notched a reassuring penalty.
