WELSH did all the damage in the first half and then held out as their derby rivals mounted a stirring recovery after the interval. Luke Horan's precise penalty gave the home side their 10th-minute breakthrough but when sustained pressure forced another infringement Welsh opted to run the ball and Mark Ellis powered over for his second try in as many weeks. Luke Horan added the conversion

points and Welsh stretched their lead to 15-0 when a high-speed attack gave Brett Horan the chance to dive over in the corner.

The second half was a totally different story with Keresley enjoying a clear territorial advantage, but Welsh displayed exemplary defensive discipline to restrict them to a consolation try 10 minutes from time.
