KENILWORTH overcame a fully committed Stratford plus a saturated pitch and bitter cold temperatures to book their place in the second round of the Warwickshire Cup. The visitors dominated the opening exchanges, forcing a series of penalties although just one reaped three points but gradually the home pack got to grips with the elements and their opponents, Rob Varney finishing off a powerful

surge with a try, which Glenn Bond converted.

Stratford responded with an unconverted try only for a neat pick-up by Andy Fox to set up a move that was carried on, and finished, by Gareth Renowden. Bond missed the conversion but then slotted over a superb long-range penalty to give Kenilworth a 15-8 interval advantage.

Inside three minutes of the restart the lead was stretched as a spate of forward drives paid dividends as Tristan Wati thundered over for a converted try before Francis Nock sewed up the victory with a try ten minutes from the end.

Warwickshire Seconds, quarter final: Kenilworth 39 Old Laurentians 20; Shottery 7 Kenilworth 3rds 39.
