Earnshaw looking to take out England frustration

Refreshed by the effects of a fortnight’s mid-winter sun, Russell Earnshaw will not resist the temptation to directly involve himself in Birmingham & Solihull’s latest step towards promotion. The Bees player-coach returned from Dubai this week where he had been part of Ben Ryan’s staff that guided England to a disappointing quarter-final finish in the Rugby World Cup Sevens.

Stoked up on a cocktail of vitamin D and disappointment, the former Doncaster back row returns to the side that faces Mounts Bay at Sharmans Cross Road tomorrow, desperate to work through some of his pent-up frustration.

“I have got a little bit of anger to get rid of,” Earnshaw says. “I actually said before I went away that my last game against Blackheath was probably the most enjoyable one I have ever played in.

“I am really loving playing at the moment and as long as I can get away with picking myself that’s exactly what I’ll do.”

Self selection could be something of an issue too. Loose forward is probably the deepest area of Bees’ squad with Earnshaw, Leo Halavatau and Rob Connolly all adept at playing across the back row and try machine Chris Brightwell, Adam Clayton and the evergreen Jim Jenner all competing for three positions.
