Neil Mason stresses importance of work-rate

Talismanic back row Neil Mason has promised his Moseley team-mates their National One status will be secure – as long as they replicate last weekend’s work-rate nine more times this season. The powerful blindside put in an outstanding display in last Saturday’s 23-17 defeat to Esher and along with Andy Reay and Aly Muldowney did not deserve to end up on the losing side.
By the time the 26-year-old trudged off the Pillar Data Arena pitch after 73 minutes, he had run himself and his opponents ragged, indeed the only surprise was that just before he was called in he still had enough energy to enjoy a dust-up with one of the hosts’ fresh-legged replacements.
Perhaps it wasn’t too surprising. Mason is the type of player who always has energy for a good old brawl and it is that sort of determination that will serve his side well when they face Sedgley Tigers at Billesley Common tomorrow.
