Rampant Birmingham and Solihull

Birmingham & Solihull Bees 80 Mounts Bay 5 Certain clubs are renowned for the strength of their forwards – tries from the front eight are nothing new to them. But when your forwards start outscoring the rest in open play then eyebrows start to be raised. Of the 12 tries the Bees ran in against a brave Mounts Bay side, more than half came from the pack – and there wasn’t a pushover or rolling

maul among them.

Flanker Rob Connolly led the way with a score in each half with props, locks and hookers also getting in on the act.

And while the Cornish defence was threadbare to say the least, the fact that there were 11 different scorers just shows the type of fluent rugby Bees are playing as they edge ever closer to league leaders Redruth.

It took the Bees 12 minutes to open their tally, time spent scrutinising their visitors, looking for the gaps. They found plenty.

Hooker Jack Preece outpaced the defence for the opener with Connolly and Reece Spee adding tries before Bay responded with an effort from Brett Stroud.

Mark Woodrow, who also finished up with ten conversions, added the bonus score moments ahead of visiting prop Tim Mathias being sent to the sin bin for one too many misdemeanours.

Three tries in as many minutes followed for Bees as they opened up a 47-5 half-time lead, Matt Long, Scott Young and Adam Clayton scything through.
