Brocklehurst wants to end on a promotion high

NUNEATON centre Simon Brocklehurst is resigned to calling time on his playing career at the end of a season which he hopes will finish with a promotion celebration. After seven knee operations, the 30-year-old England Counties cap has been forced to concede defeat but – while taking his first steps in coaching with Nuneaton’s colts – is determined to add to the five appearances he has
made for the Division Three North title favourites this season before finally hanging up his boots.
“My knee is not holding up too well to the stress and strain of a game, but I still love it and my aim really is to finish at the end of the year with a couple more games for the firsts,” said Brocklehurst, who moved to Nuns from Coventry in 2005.
“Mentally I’m not ready to stop, the same as any player of my age, and especially when the team is doing so well, but my knee has been getting worse as time goes on and even getting through half a match is tough.”
Written off by many before the start of the season after relegation, Nuns have won their last ten league games and are lying in second place in the table with the same points as leaders Caldy but holding two games in hand.
