Bees ready to unleash Simon Hunt

National Two’s leading scorer Simon Hunt will be unshackled from his right wing and given the freedom of Sharmans Cross Road when Birmingham & Solihull take on Southend tomorrow. Not that the former England Sevens man has hitherto found his role in Bees’ team to be especially restrictive, his 20 league tries this season are testament to a signing that could well prove to be Russell Earnshaw’s

best.

But with the B&S player coach looking to rotate his squad before the final month of the season throws promotion rivals Launceston, Tynedale, Redruth and Cambridge in their way, he has opted to rest the effervescent Reece Spee.

The move will see Hunt handed the New Zealander’s full back berth, a prospect that is likely to inject outstanding finishing power down the home team’s spine and send shock-waves down the visitors’.

“He originally came to us as a full-back, in fact any of our back three, Hunty, Reece and Mitch Culpin can all play there,” said Earnshaw.

“His kicking game is probably as good as any of theirs so he’s going to be a massive threat from 15.

“If anything Hunty is probably a better finisher than Reece because he is quicker top end. If we can get him into a broken field he will be pretty devastating.”

Which must come as wonderful news to a visiting team that will have their relegation rubber-stamped. Especially when Bees are coming off the back of a club record 80-5 thrashing of Mounts Bay last Saturday.
