Consistency must be Moseley watchword - Bignell

After giving a passable impression of the fourth emergency service, always first to a breakdown, Richie Bignell has challenged his Moseley team-mates to sustain the performance levels that brought them a historic league and cup double last Saturday. Their Herculean efforts in beating Exeter Chiefs not only put Ian Smith’s men into the final of the National Trophy, they also secured five vital

league points but Bignell knows there is still work to be done if the season is not to be deemed a failure.

Twickenham final or none Moseley are still in a relegation dogfight and with a punishing schedule on the horizon the 22-year-old says Saturday’s display must not be a one-off.

The Bristolian is no doubt all too aware of his team’s tendency to follow a high with something less satisfactory and with in-form Doncaster to face this weekend there can be no let up.

“It would waste everything,” he says. “After that performance at the weekend we have to make sure we don’t take our foot off the gas.

“We have a hard run-in, with a lot of games in a short space of time, but the squad is so tight together now.

“We have got a lot of points to play for so it is important we keep that intensity because we have raised the bar and set ourselves a new standard that we have to reach consistently.

“I am sure if we do that we are going to be fine.”

Indeed so. If Moseley can beat Exeter they are capable of doing the same to any team in National One.

The Chiefs arrived at Billesley Common on Saturday knowing a bonus-point win would not only put them through to the cup showpiece but draw them level with Leeds at the top of the division.
