Wales international Williams handed early debut by Moseley

Wales international Andy Williams will make his debut for Moseley just days after signing for Ian Smith’s men. The scrum half, who has won five caps for the national side, finalised a deal earlier this week and with skipper Gareth Taylor struggling with an ankle injury will be thrown straight into action as Mose open their Championship campaign at home to Exeter.

Head coach Smith will also have to call on another new recruit, No 8 Ryan Wilson, who joins from Edinburgh having represented Scotland Under 20s in this summer’s IRB Junior World Championships in Japan.

With both James Rodwell and Mark Evans out for seven and two weeks respectively, the youngster steps into the fray in an unfamiliar looking line-up.

While Wilson is one for the future, supporters will hope Williams can make an instant impact having played his entire career at the highest level.

The 28-year-old has toured South Africa and Australia with Wales and has represented his country off the bench against the Wallabies and Argentina.

And Smith is excited about the prospect of seeing the Welshman in Red and Black. “He is going to develop into a great asset for us,” Smith said.

“He is highly experienced and a really good lad who has already worked with the younger scrum halves. He has come to us looking to enjoy his rugby again and he’ll benefit from playing.”
