Nuns and Boro finally seal ground share deal

NUNEATON Town FC and Nuneaton RFC have finalised an agreement that will see both clubs sharing pitch and ground facilities at Liberty Way. This will enable Nuns to play rugby matches in the football stadium and Boro to have improved access and parking facilities. Boro chairman Ian Neale and his Nuns counterpart Robert Ryan have agreed terms and expect to complete the deal in time for the

rugby club to play their first home game in the stadium on Saturday.

The agreement will run for the 2009/10 season and both Neale and Ryan are keen to build on this to secure a longer term agreement.

Meanwhile Boro manager Kevin Wilkin was full of his praise for his side that overcame the horrors of a poor playing surface at Penydarren Park to inflict the first home league defeat on bottom-of-the-table Merthyr Tydfil.

Boro eased to a decisive 3-1 success over The Martyrs, who were hit with a ten-point deduction in the summer for off the pitch irregularities.

“I don’t think they could have any complaints,” said Wilkin. “The long throws caused us problems but we defended them well and, in Gareth Dean, had one of the best players on the pitch.

“The whole side did their job on what was a difficult playing surface.”
