Rugby Lions 34 Huddersfield 27

RUGBY LIONS overcame Huddersfield’s brawn to register an impressive 34-27 win at the Webb Ellis Stadium. Lions welcomed back their former kicker and National Two’s leading scorer Chris Johnson, but he went home deflated after his former side showed their quality on a bruising afternoon. However, Lions had to awake from an early slumber during which Mark Whitehead put the visitors ahead,

with Johnson adding the extras.

Johnson then endeared himself to the Rugby fans by missing two simple chances, but he found his radar for his fourth attempt as Huddersfield swept into a 10-0 lead.

But Rugby hit back when Chris Humphrey was driven over following some solid Lions pressure, while Lloyd Warner added a penalty moments later.

Jeff Gregson put the hosts ahead with a try, but Huddersfield reversed Lions’ previous penalty to make it 13-13 at the break.

Lions saw off a spate of Huddersfield attacks before going ahead again through Matt Goode, before Tom Harris and Warner both scored as Lions locked out the game.

And they held off a late rally, which included two tries, for a deserved victory.
