Bradford & Bingley 20 Rugby Lions 27

RUGBY LIONS were forced to grind out a narrow bonus-point win against rock-bottom Bradford & Bingley in a scrappy and disjointed battle. Bradford seized the lead through the boot of Tom Davidson, but Lloyd Warner then kicked a penalty of his own to drag Lions level, before Davidson clipped a drop-goal attempt between the posts midway through the first half.

But Lions finally sprang to life and scored thanks to Phil Reed, but Warner missed an easy chance to convert.

And in a topsy-turvy game, Bradford surged ahead once again when Tom Cokell crashed over to make it 11-8 to the hosts, before Lions’ Tom Harris retaliated on the stroke of half-time to send Rugby in ahead. Davidson narrowed the gap with a penalty after the restart, but Harris scored his second to give Lions some degree of comfort against determined opposition, before two Davidson penalties were cancelled out by Jeff Gregson as Lions wrapped up the victory.
