Kurt Johnson all geared up to do the ton for Coventry

CROWD favourite Kurt Johnson is hoping that past form will count as he chases his 100th league try in Coventry colours when Championship leaders Bristol come to the Butts Park Arena on Saturday. The 32-year-old winger scored the first league hat-trick of his career against Bristol while playing for Orrell and has since added three more tries in the limited number of games between the

two clubs during his 11 seasons at Cov.

“If I can get in the match 22 again and hopefully get on the field, maybe I can pinch another one,” said Johnson, who missed the start of the season through injury and has been limited to two replacement appearances in Cov’s most recent games.

“I seem to be getting slightly closer each time. I got within five metres on my comeback at Moseley and it took a fantastic bit of defence to stop me at Plymouth on Saturday.

“I feel that I’ve got some tries in me, so hopefully it will be third time lucky.”

Chasing personal goals has always been a major focus for the Barbados international.

“I set myself personal targets and every time I step out on the pitch I want to score and feel that I can regardless of the opposition,” said Johnson.

“I’m a bit disappointed because I wanted to be the first to score 100 league tries for one club, but my old mate down at Exeter, Richard Baxter, beat me to it earlier in the season. He started on 95 to my 99, but he has been playing every week while I’ve been out.

“That’s another accolade that has just escaped me, but I still want to get there and go beyond. There’s nothing I would like more than to be back in the starting XV and scoring tries.

“We were fitness testing over Christmas and I did all right – while I’ve been out I’ve been able to do a lot of strength and conditioning work that you can’t do while you are playing.

Hope Kurt does manage to get the try Saturday. He is a great player for Coventry over the years and still is. He is a friendly guy off the field as well .
My 12 year old son goes to Woodlands School and says he always has time to chat to people when they see him at training.
GOOD LUCK KURT - COME ON COV

Kurt my lad, I don't mind if you don't score, I know you will always sweat blood for the team and run through a brick wall if you have to.

Let's just win eh, best 100th present of all.
