Cov boss points to Bees defeat as turning point

PHIL Maynard has spoken of his devastation at seeing his Coventry side relegated at the weekend. Defeat at home to Rotherham, followed by Bees’ win at Moseley, saw the Butts Park outfit finish bottom of the relegation play-offs with just two wins from six games. That meant the Blue and Whites dropped into the third tier for the first time in 15 years where they will miss out on up
to £300,000 of RFU funding.
That will have far reaching repercussions for a club that is trying to get back on its feet after going into administration at the end of last year. And Maynard expressed his sadness at the way things had worked out. “I am devastated for the club,” he said. “I genuinely thought we had a hope of staying up this season but it was not to be. I have never been relegated as player or a coach in a long time in the game, since leagues began, it’s a terrible feeling.”
But the former Worcester, Stourbridge and Birmingham & Solihull manager revealed he became concerned after the second round of the relegation play offs, when his side lost to Russell Earnshaw’s Bees. They left Butts Park with a 22-18 win that ultimately proved the difference between the two sides despite the fact Coventry dominated proceedings.
“When we lost to Bees at home, that was the lowest point, an all time low. The fact that we had so many chances to win the game but didn’t meant I felt we would always be behind the eight-ball.”
Cov managed to alleviate some of the pressure with victories over Moseley and in the return match with Bees and left themselves in a position where one win from their final two matches would have been enough. But they were thrashed at Billesley Common and it was a highly-motivated Rotherham side that arrived at Butts Park on Saturday to inflict the 38-12 beating.
“Saturday depended on what state of mind Rotherham would be in,” Maynard said. “With it being Craig West’s last game and his son playing for them, they were always going to be up for it. Watching our performance and the scores come in from Moseley, it was evident halfway through the second half what was going to happen.”

Im not sure anyone cares how devastated you are, you have managed to get Cov relegated and you have us all feeling devastated now. You were disliked before you came to Cov, what do you think people will think of you now? You will never be forgiven by Cov fans and you will never have the respect of Cov fans.
Just go and take self pity with you.
