Coventry's new Backs Coach, Peter Glackin, and new Fitness and Conditioning Coach, Rob Norman, have been most impressed with the enthusiasm and committment shown by the new Coventry Rugby squad. With over 30 players regularly attending training at BPA, the final squad numbers are still being evaluated but a much larger squad than last season is expected.
Peter Glackin, Backs Coach joined this season from Rugby Lions and has had the advantage of knowing a large number of the local players. He feels that he has settled in well with the other coaches and enjoys working with such a great bunch of players. It is all about creating a positive ethos amongst the squad. All the squad are working hard in excellent and varied training sessions. Peter feels that he is privileged to be working with such a group of outstandingly talented players, and is encouraging them to play their natural style which is an exciting brand of free flowing rugby. There is still the need to bring more order and structure into their game, which will come with experience.
Rob Norman, Fitness and Conditioning Coach is having to get used to part-time training. In some ways he feels that it gives the players more time to recover. Rob thinks that this season the players seem more motivated, helped by the fact that with a much larger squad than last season, all players are having to fight for their places and positions. Competition in all parts of the team has helped the part-time training go well, but Rob, as part of his job is managing players expectations for the coming season.
