Coventry Rugby are pleased to announce the signings of two further backs, Matt Mountford and Gary Challis, for the coming ND1 season. This makes 28 signings so far including 22 new players. Further signings are expected over the next two weeks as paperwork and negotiations are completed. Training is still attracting prospective new players and evaluations are still continuing. .
A much larger squad than last year is expected to be signed
Matt Mountford--utility back-- Bournville
Gary Challis--centre--Broad Street.
Matt Mountford, aged 27 hails from Birmingham. Is presently at Bournville but has played for Worcester and Moseley. A utility back playing mainly at wing or his preferred position wearing the No 15 jersey. Knowing Director of Rugby Phil Maynard, from his Worcester days, Matt jumped at the chance to renew his ND1
experience. Matt has been impressed with the level of training and professionalism shown, and looks forward to helping Coventry in a successful season.
Gary Challis, aged 22 is a centre. Born in Coventry he attended Coundon Court School. Comes from the Broad Street, Coventry club but has also had a season out in New Zealand. Part of the rugby family associated with Dunlop. Gary has always wanted to play for his hometown team. Wants to do his hometown proud and looks forward to assisting Coventry Rugby in their ambitions. He is pleased to be part of a great bunch of lads and has been impressed with the team spirit and how the team is gelling together. Although training has been more intense than used to, Gary has felt the benefit of the strength and conditioning work, and still finds that the training is enjoyable.
