COVENTRY V WHARFEDALE PREVIEW
By Tom Little
October 26 2010
This Saturday at BPA kick off 3pm Coventry face Wharfedale for the first time in the league, although they met some years ago in the cup. Wharfedale where founded in 1923 and have their picturesque ground at Threshfield in the Dales. Long standing President is former England International John Spencer. Last season Wharfedale finished 6th in NL1, which is where they presently stand, with 5 wins and 3 losses so far, under head coach Tom McGee.
This season Wharfedale have struggled to score many tries, their first try bonus coming in last week’s win by 43-24 over Macclesfield. Despite that they have a strong pack and in having the league’s 2nd leading goalkicker , Tom Davidson they have managed to win some close games.
In addition to beating Macclesfield they have also succeeded at home over Otley and Stourbridge. They also lost at home to Cinderford.
Away they have had large losses at Cambridge and Tynedale but have won at Redruth and Sedgley Park.
Players to watch are crowd pleaser No 8 Talite Vaioleti (Jersey) and flanker Dan Solomi.
Captain is flanker Rob Baldwin, and other influential players are scrum half Philip Woodhead and winger Simon Horsfall.
Another exciting encounter is expected at BPA and Coventry will need to get back onto winning ways after 2 narrow away defeats.
The Coventry team will be announced on Thursday following injury doubts from last weeks match and last nights Nighthawks game.
