Coventry v Blackheath preview

This Saturday 13th November, Coventry meet Blackheath in their home NL1 fixture at the BPA, kick off 3pm. Blackheath, reputedly the oldest rugby club, founded in 1858 like to be known solely as “Club”. Coventry last played them in the old Division 2 days in the season 1998/9, where Coventry achieved the double over them. In fact Blackheath haven’t beaten Coventry away for over 30 years.

After finishing 8^th last season, this season under DOR Steve Pope and Performance Director Yusuf  Ibrahim, they are a creditable 4^th, on 33 points with 6 wins and 4 defeats. Like Coventry they are high scorers and also have the ability to pick up bonus points. They play a good all round game with a strong pack. 

Blackheath had the notable away win over league favourites London Scottish on the first day of the season, and since then have beaten Rosslyn Park, Redruth, Otley, Sedgley Park and Cinderford.

Their first loss was away to Tynedale, and then away to Cambridge. Further losses have come at home to Stourbridge and to Macclesfield. 

Players to watch are the league’s leading try scorer flanker Dave Allen on 10 tries, speedy winger Tyson Lewis, and leading league goalkicker centre Sam Windsor.

Blackheath will be wanting to come back from 2 defeats in a row, whilst Coventry will wanting to continue their winning run. Another exciting and high scoring match is expected for BPA this Saturday.
