COVENTRY RUGBY V REDRUTH PREVIEW WITH RESULTS ROUNDUP

This Saturday 16th April sees Coventry meet Redruth, here at the BPA kick 3pm in Coventry’s penultimate home game of the season. This game is crucial for both sides as a win for Coventry would remove any lingering mathematical chance of relegation, and for Redruth, a win for them could move them out of the relegation bottom 3.
Redruth were founded in 1875 one year after Coventry. They are currently in 14th place after finishing 11th last season. A period of re-trenchment has been needed following the RFU’s cut in founding with Chairman David Penberthy taking over as Director of Rugby assisted by coaches Craig Bonds and Tony Cook.
Players to watch are leading goalkicker Aaron Penberthy on 220 points and No 8 Mark Bright. Redruth have maintained a relationship with Premiership side Exeter Chiefs which has allowed some loan players in, but the team relies mainly on last years squad and colts.
The teams last met in February when Coventry won an exciting away game after coming back from 3 tries behind to finally win 43-31. Since then Redruth have suffered a large loss against Cambridge but have managed wins over Stourbridge and Cinderford, and last Saturday earned a creditable draw with high flying Macclesfield.
Another exciting game is expected this Saturday as Coventry go for this crucial win and another double of the season, with the added spice of Coventry going for three more tries to make it a century for the season.

Some interesting fixtures this week, which should help to clarify some of the relegation issues. A Coventry win will make them safe but put more pressure on Redruth, whilst the other 2 teams in the relegation spots, Launceston and Otley, face difficult games against Blackheath and Macclesfield respectively.
Blaydon and Sedgley Park also face tough games, defeat of either could get them looking nervously over their shoulder.
The promotion battle continues with both London Scottish and Barking having arguably not too difficult games, but it is expected that this battle will not be resolved until both teams meet in May.

Once again the league’s top two London Scottish and Barking had bonus point wins, although Barking left it late against Launceston, leaving their May confrontation as their expected decider.
Below them there are still 9 teams with a mathematical chance of relegation. It was only Blaydon and Sedgley Park from these 9, who were unable to pick up at least 1 point last Saturday. Another loss for Wharfedale puts pressure on them but they do have games in hand. Coventry picked up a losing bonus point meaning that a win over Redruth on Saturday will make them safe.
Although losing, Otley picked up 2 points against Cambridge whilst Redruth earned a creditable draw at home to Macclesfield, and lowly Launceston ran Barking close.
Once again results proved how close the majority of games are in this league.

We were relegated last year, we've had a very "curate's egg" type of season, we're looking nervously at the table with no hope of getting promoted back up, and yet nothing seems to have changed. One of the mantras which you learn in business is that, if you continue to do what you've always done, you'll continue to get what you've always got.
So where is the rebuilding for the future?
Where is the frank analysis of the team and of individual abilities?
Where is the fire in the stomach which demands that Cov gets back to days of former glory?
I could go on, but it's pretty disheartening to witness such yo-yo performances on the pitch and an apparent absence of determination to even begin to put things right. Or is it me that's wrong?
