More retained by Coventry Rugby.

Coventry Rugby are pleased to announce that 2 more of last season’s squad have re-signed for the coming season, hooker/back row Jamie Harrop and versatile back Danny Richards.

Jamie Harrop, another versatile player, started off in the back row and last season trained as a hooker. Indeed by the end of the season he had become the first choice hooker in the Warwickshire side. Jamie also had a spell on loan at Hinckley, starting off in the back row and then switching to No 2. Prominent round the park, Jamie was recalled by Coventry in the latter part of the season, and in total made 4 appearances.

Danny Richards, came to Coventry Rugby from Broad Street, at the start of last season, he made 21 appearances in total scoring 4 tries, 3 from No 10 and 1 from fullback. He also kicked 16 conversions and 10 penalties. Starting off as fly half he had spells at centre and finished off the season as fullback with Ben Russell switching to the No 10 jersey. A hard working player Danny provides the Coventry club with options in the backs.

"Indeed by the end of the season he had become the first choice hooker in the Warwickshire side."

That is a ridiculous statement as anyone with any knowledge of the Warwickshire campaign or local rugby will know.

So is Harrop being signed as a hooker? Seems risky to me.

Ridiculous? of course.

Now, Who started as hooker for the final two our of three Warwickshire County Championship matches?

sorry CovKiddo my interpretation of the Warwickshire squad chosen this season.
Just too clarify Danny Richards scored 4 tries as quoted but 1 from No 10 and 3 from the fullback position.

The implication of the article is that Jamie played his way through the ranks to become Warwickshire's first choice hooker, but the Warwickshire games were a shambles of selection. "INDEED" for Yorkshire we had Glackin, veteran 10 who hadn't played all year and two 17 year old backs who had a handful of senior club appearances between them. I don't think selection for these matches qualify anyone for National 1 rugby, especially in the spine at hooker.

We could potentially have two 21 year old props in warren and parkins, 20 and 22 year old locks in Weaver and Mather, all in the tight-5 and being held together by Harrop, a novice hooker.

Like i said seems risky. I would expect that Harrop will once again spend a lot of next season on loan in lower leagues.

Any chance of Jon Boden and Gareth Collins from Leicester Lions joining?. Boden is a decent kicker and Collins is a good player who is playing well below hes ability

It would be surprising if Glackin managed to go the whole way through a Warwickshire training session without pulling Collins to one side to ask him to join Coventry.

I believe that Leicester Lions sorted him out with a good job at a school in Grantham. So although he is playing below his level, i imagine that his loyalty to Leicester lions is rooted in job security.
