He's a solid player...He kept Toby Handley out of the side at Rugby Lions in the 09/10 season where they finished 6th in National 2 North.

When everyone walked out on Lions last summer he moved back to his home town side in National 3 and behind an effective pack was considered by many on rolling-maul.com to be the 1st choice Scrum-half for the National 3 team of the year.

All the players who came to Cov from that Rugby Lions side have done well. He should feel at home with half a dozen former team-mates and his former coach here.

Another shrewd signing I should think.

Lions unearthed a gem of a scrum half last season in Neil Davies who is highly regarded but opted to stay at Webb Ellis Rd for another year despite being a student at Cov Uni.

Dare we ask if you can kick?

Its nice to see a new scrum half at the club, and welcome. However my preferance would have been someone who is already proven at our level or above, a less of a risky choice perhaps.

As we are signing more players i do think we are still lacking experienced play makers in key positions. We saw for ourselves several times last season what a difference an experienced player with a cool head can make, especially at fly half and scrum half.

there is still another (maybe 2 ) s/h slot to fill. Walls, Glynn or a new signing.
also, there's maybe still a slot for a 10 (depending on whether they see Russell and Richards as primarily 15's or not next season) who can fulfil the goalkicking/game management requirement.
Then it's a couple of props to be added and that's probably it.

I agree, we have the kept the youth from last season and added a couple more but now its time to get some experience.

We wont get out of this division playing nice rugby, we need some steel and nouse.

I know of a number of other players asked to train with Cov in the Summer - most young local players so I would imagine there'll quite a few additions to the squad.
Barker's a decent 9 - remember him at Students - Cov could do worse than look at the ON's full back - classy player, and Falvey the big 8.

There are plenty of gems a couple of leagues below. Big goalkicking 10 at South Leicester's been racking up the poitns for quite a few seasons - handy player too..

We need some money.
Good quality goalkicking out-halves come with a big ticket....

I agree Kimbo they may do, but if other teams in the league can aquire some experienced decision makers, then realistically we should be able to do it too.

I think its generally accpeted that whilst talent, and fitness is great, having the experience of pressured situations is invaluable. And im afraid that only comes from being in those situations, so for a goal kicker thats what we need. I know thats what was lacking last season for the goal kicker. id love to know how richards goal kicking percentage compared from his previous lower divison kicking to the kicking at Cov. At the end of the day a kick is a kick, but its the presure at the time that is the difference.
