New players for Coventry Rugby.

Coventry Rugby are pleased to announce a further 2 players to their squad making 25 signings so far revealed, including 19 retained from last season. Gareth Turner, a blindside forward and Jonathan Hallett, a fullback have both signed for the coming season.
Gareth Turner, back row forward was at Rugby Lions for part of last season, with 7 appearances and scoring 1 try. Last season Gareth also played for the Coventry Nighthawks side as well as Warwickshire.
Jonathan (Jonty) Hallett, moves to Coventry Rugby from Plymouth Albion, where he was part of their squad for the past season, whilst on work practice from University. Now back home in the Midlands finishing off his architecture degree, Jonty has joined Coventry Rugby. Aged 23 Jonty has previously played for Nottingham University and Northampton 7’s. A hard running fullback he likes running in open play and also hitting the line at speed. Also a good line kicker, he has the opportunity to develop his rugby career.

I guess Jonathan Hallett has come via the Northampton connection.
The squad looks like it could have better depth next season, contrary to the impression PR gave at the end of the season on ruck n maul, where he said it might be smaller than last season.

Better depth in quality perhaps, but not in numbers. When I took the squad photos at the start of last season there were quite a few players whose pictures I took who never appeared for Coventry, and barely appeared for the Nighthawks.
The impression I got was that they were signed to make sure we could put out a 20 at the start of the season, in case the preferred players weren't signed in time.
As auntie pastie mentions there will be also some trailists when training starts.
If the squad has a higher calibre of player, each player could be on more money and there could also be a cut in overall players salaries because there are fewer of them.
Players seasoned in this division or higher should be less prone to injury or loss of form, so the team should have more continuity. Settled teams always do better than those that are chopped and changed, so hopefully we will see real benefit this term.
