Danny Grewcock credits Barkers’ for his glittering career.

DANNY Grewcock won nearly 70 caps for England, a World Cup winner’s medal and a place on two British & Irish Lions tours during his illustrious career – and he credits Barkers’ Butts for all of it.

 

Grewcock, now 38, got his first taste of rugby at Woodlands School and Barkers’ Butts, who currently ply their trade in the newly sponsored SSE Midlands 2 West (South) division, in Coventry.

A step up to Coventry themselves followed before his first major move to Saracens in 1997 and four years later he joined Bath, with who he announced his retirement earlier this year.

Grewcock earned 69 international caps in the years between Barkers’ Butts and now, toured with the Lions in 2001 and 2005 while he 2003 he was part of England’s World Cup winning team.

Having hung up his boots Grewcock is now the academy director at Bath and he insists he wouldn’t be where he is today or achieved what he has without the help of Barkers’ Butts.

“The National League structure is hugely important, I was lucky enough to start my career with Barkers’ Butts playing in Midlands Division One,” said Grewcock.

Poetic license I think they call it or putting the words in someones mouth.

That said, he did state he was "lucky to start his career with BB in Mid 1", maybe thats where he implied it.

At least he acknowledges his junior rugby club for bringing him through the ranks before he went on to Cov.
