Phil Maynard blasts Coventry.

RUGBY director Phil Maynard declared Coventry’s performance ‘unacceptable’ after his side crashed to a 31-10 National League One defeat in the wet at Wharfedale.

Cov opened up a 10-0 lead in the opening quarter but rarely threatened over the remaining hour and conceded four tries to return home empty-handed.

“To go ten points up and then lose the rest of the game 31-0 is unacceptable,” said Maynard. “It was very poor.

“They taught us a lesson in ball retention and we tended to kick away good possession and attempt to run poor possession. It all came off the rails when we tried to chase the game.

Some of us have been saying for some time that Cov are too eager to kick the ball away, and now it continues with the first two games of this season. It's an old adage that you can't cross the line if the opposition have the ball. Sorry for the late entry. I've been away.
