FORWARDS coach Dave Addleton bemoaned a lost chance for Coventry to put pressure of the National League One frontrunners after their 27-27 draw against Blaydon at the Butts Park Arena.
Cov needed a converted Adam Parkins try in injury-time to preserve their unbeaten home record, pulling back from 22-13 down inside the final quarter.
But Addleton was adamant that Cov, who had two of their pack in the sin bin when Blaydon scored their third try after 61 minutes, should never have been in that position and made too many errors.
“It was a big missed opportunity for us and we’re not at all satisfied with the result,” said the former Cov hooker.
“We gave them two of their tries – from a charge-down and then a loose kick in midfield and a missed tackle – and those mistakes killed us as well as having two men in the sin bin at the same time. There was no lack of effort throughout the side, but we have just got to be smarter in what we do.
“We played all the rugby but Blaydon’s defence worked hard and perhaps we should have been a bit more direct in the middle of the field to break them down. But we will still take things out of the game. The lads fought and fought and scored a try right at the very end – we have that never-say-die attitude and that is invaluable.”
