Selection headache for Phil Maynard as Cov head to Barking.

The 20 players who figured in last week’s 27-27 home draw against Blaydon are all available – influential centre Luke Myring given the all-clear after picking up a shoulder knock.

But a number of other candidates, led by winger Luke Veebel, pushed themselves forward for selection by their performances in Monday’s narrow defeat for the Nighthawks at Moseley.

“The only real problem we have is a selection conundrum,” said rugby director Phil Maynard, “so we will wait to see how everyone came through training last night before we decide.

“Monday was a useful exercise to get some lads back in the frame and give time on the pitch to some who haven’t had a single game yet, Luke in particular played very well.”

Barking narrowly missed out on promotion last season, finishing runners-up to London Scottish, but lost their principal coaching team and some notable players over the summer and have struggled to reassert themselves this term with just one win from five games. “They are in a rebuilding process but Goresbrook is never an easy place to play,” said Maynard.
