Phil Maynard delighted by Coventry show.

COVENTRY are up to fourth place in National League One after securing their first try bonus point of the season in Saturday’s 34-22 win at Barking.

Outstanding flanker Alex Nash touched down twice as Cov, holding a narrow  13-10 advantage at half-time, stepped up a gear after the break and added three  converted tries to lead 34-10 before letting in the home side for two tries in  stoppage time. “Once again it was a hard-fought win which we had to graft for  and to get our first bonus point at a place like Barking on a very hot day is a  good result,” said a delighted rugby director Phil Maynard.

“The third quarter was decisive after a close first half and Barking felt the  pressure more than we did and cracked.

“Some little bits of our game are still not clicking and it was a shame about  the last five minutes which marred the day a little bit.

“But as a whole team we did very well – we played some good percentage rugby  and we looked fitter and sharper in the right periods of the game.

“Alex Nash’s work-rate was phenomenal.

“If I’d been offered where we are now before the start of the season I’d have  happily taken it and now we just need to try to raise the bar again next week  when Cambridge visit and build on what we have achieved so far.”

spot on,as p/m has said pity about the last 5 mins - but believe me it was "HOT ENOUGH" sat in the stand (31 DEGREES) so what the players felt on the pitch must have been unbearable!!!! - Well done guys, now on to the next game - one step at a time?

I don't want to be too critical,Eric, and Cov did very well and deserved their win, but it must be said that the sun shone on both sides.

I think the difference was Cov's workrate, they tackled hard in the second half kept things tight until the last 5 mins. The Barking forwards looked tired in the second half and that showed in the scrums where Cov did much better second half.
