Glackin praises half backs Lewis Barker and Elliott Read.

Seven games into the new campaign the Blue and Whites stand seventh in National One and are one of a group of several teams challenging the top three.

Saturday’s last-play defeat to Cambridge was their first at home this season and snapped the four-game unbeaten streak that created a lot of optimism at Butts Park.

Scrum half Barker and fly half Read have been an important in Cov’s beginning to the season and with seven straight starts appear to have provided the solution to what was a problem area at times last term.

“The half backs have done well,” backs coach Glackin said. “We struggled to get a balance there last year and I know from having played in those positions myself a settled combination helps a side to function.

“They are developing nicely, they are both good players who have really bought in to what we are doing here but they have worked hard to do it.

“It’s not just been a case of turning up and being guaranteed a place, there is pressure on them from other boys so they have had to be on their toes.”
