GOSSIP FROM AROUND THE WEBSITES NOVEMBER EDITION.

The following is a selection taken from various rugby websites about current rugby matters No responsibility can be taken for the veracity, or otherwise of such stories.
RFU
Teflon trousers “squeaky b-m” Andrews is likely to survive any censure of the RFU/World Cup debacle, no doubt helped by him being judge and jury over the review.
A suggestion has arisen that the Heinz 57 committee men should resign en masse and let the RFU be run professionally instead of as a private closed shop fiefdom. But why would turkeys vote for Christmas?
A revolutionary thought, what if all, privileges such as tickets, accommodation, food and drink were removed, this would remove a lot of chancers and time servers. Pie in the sky!
PREMIERSHIP
Anyone has a spare £1 to spare? If so you too could buy Premiershipside Wasps. However “caveat emptores” let the buyer beware, planning permission has been turned down for a new ground, existing losses in the millions as well as continued annual losses have to be covered.
Perhaps a phone call to Andrew Green might help.
CHAMPIONSHIP
Is it the end of the British and Irish Cup, as well as a review of the play off systems? The B&I cup unloved by coaches but not by all fans, who welcome the chance to see other teams , making a change from the turgid championship games often meeting the same side 4 times a season. Still no sponsor and large travel expenses to be found.
A review of the Championship playoff system at both ends of the table is also rumoured, if so would it need division to be increased to 14 teams, play offs probably still for promotion but not for relegation. Watch this space.
NATIONAL LEAGUE 1
“An incompetent biased referee not policing the scrum or rucks properly.” No not a report from a Coventry game, but Fylde fans taking umbrage that a side dared to beat them at home. Excuses have to be found and evidently only teams that have the Brian Ashton style are allowed to win.
What will be Fylde’s attitude to future losses?
LOWER LEAGUES
Finally mention of Rugby Lions, no not about RL beating their closest rivalsSouth Leicester, but of Neil Back keeping up his renowned reputation. Allegedly using foul and abusive language threatening to meet an opposing supporter on the car park afterwards, someone on crutches as well. Makes a change from hitting a referee.
Any come back I doubt it!

And as for the Championship chatter; wouldn't it be nice if there was some truth in it? The second-level league has virtually become a dead-space with the cartel controlling egress from above, and the RFU screwing the rest up - particularly the bottom end. With a number of quality sides looking for access from below over the next two/three years, there is no doubt that this issue needs an urgent review before it stagnates into a badly-funded backwater that only serves to block progress.
Still it's the RFU we're talking about here. Who (rightly) mentioned turkeys and Christmas?
