Ethan Waller promises to concentrate on Coventry career.

Since becoming dual registered the 19-year-old has become a key player for Cov whose scrum has experienced none of the problems that beset it in the early weeks of the season.

And Waller’s ball-carrying has been a bonus too, with two tries in his last two games the outstanding loosehead has shown the potential to follow his brother Alex into the Saints first team.

But until that happens the former Old Northamptonian has vowed to do everything he can to maintain Cov’s drive towards the top of National One, something they try to do at Blackheath tomorrow.

“I want to improve as much as I can and keep playing well for Cov,” Waller said. “If I get a shot at Saints that’s great but at the moment my mind is just focused on Cov and performing for them week in week out.

“I have surprised myself a little bit with how well I have made the step up. I was expecting to have my head shoved into the ground quite a few times to be fair.

“But it has worked out quite well for me and I am really enjoying myself. There are some big old boys coming down from the Prem and some experienced lads who really know what they are doing and that’s teaching me new lessons every week.”

Those lessons appear to be well learned in what is just his second season in senior rugby, after spending his first in National Three with ON.

Waller also credits the input of Cov’s coaches for the large strides he has made in the last half-dozen games.

“I am always looking for a game, this is a really good standard for me at this age – getting into a men’s game at this level.
