COVENTRY’S National League One game against Blaydon fell victim to the overnight freeze. The team coach had reached Ripon, in North Yorkshire, when referee Stephen Lee declared the Crow Trees pitch unfit after a mid-morning inspection.

The game will now be played on Saturday, February 25, as Blaydon already have a rearranged match against Tynedale to fit in on the first of the two free weekends next month, February 4.

“It’s disappointing, especially to have gone so far and then having to turn round,” said rugby director Phil Maynard.

“We were geared up for a good performance to get our season back on track.

“It’s one of those things. We had to set off when we did and it seems the frost was heavier than forecast.”
