Maynard sees new role as opportunity to take Cov forward...
By Brian Dick, Coventry Telegraph. February 7 2012
COVENTRY’S newly installed operations manager Phil Maynard says the boardroom shake-up at Butts Park Arena is designed to take the club forward.
It has been announced that Maynard will combine his off-field role with his work as director of rugby in a new-look board headed up by incoming chairman Jon Sharp.
The back-room shuffle, following the decision of Peter Rossborough to stand down as chairman, sees Coventry-born businessman Sharp step forward while Maynard will now oversee the running of Coventry Rugby Ltd.
The intention is for Maynard to increase the income generated by the club’s impressive facilities and for that in turn to be ploughed into the playing side.
And he believes the move will only make the National One outfit stronger in the long run.
“It’s an exciting time at Coventry at the moment, we have gathered a young, talented and local squad capable of challenging in this division and it’s the right time to take a whole-club view,” he said,
“Our community programme is expanding by the day, we’re about to make a major announcement about the Foundation, we are going into more and more schools and we’re delivering regular sports camps.
“What we need to do is increase the revenue we generate from our stadium through things like banqueting and conferencing, anything we make will go straight into the rugby side and make us stronger.”
