Coventry RFC physios help victims of car crash.

THREE Coventry RFC physios turned heroes when they stepped in to help at an accident on their way home from Saturday's game.Players and staff from the rugby club were on their way home from a game against Cinderford RFC in Gloucestershire on Saturday evening when they came across an accident on the A48

Three cars had been involved in a collision which saw one of the cars overturn and the driver thrown onto the road beside the vehicle.

Three of the club’s physios immediately stepped in to help.

James Neal, Sophie Meszar and Pete Walford got off the coach and assisted the man who had managed to crawl out of his car.

They suspected he had a fractured thigh bone and stretchered him away from the vehicle which had caught fire.

Minutes later the paramedics arrived and confirmed the man had suffered a fracture to his upper leg.

“We were only a few minutes away from the ground when there was an accident in front of us,” said Mr Neal, who only joined the club this season.

“The club doctor wasn’t there so the team manager asked us to go and see if we could help,

“I have never had to do anything like that with an RTA before but similar skills are needed so we did what we could until the medics arrived.

“We were not expecting something like to happen on our way home but the adrenaline just took over.

“It’s definitely been an eventful start to the season.”

Players also go off the coach and ripped the door from a second car where a woman was trapped inside.

Emergency services were called to the accident on the A48 at Chaxhill near Westbury-on-Severn at around 5.50pm on Saturday.

Paramedics treated the drivers of both cars at the scene before taking them to Gloucester Royal for further treatment.

Their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
